What is Meta Trader?

Meta Trader is hands down the most popular trading platform on the market. In fact, it is so popular that it is often offered by brokers for free, included with your account.
Meta Trader is a graphically interface that includes charting, market pricing, and a news terminal, if your broker offers it. For the average trader, it works really well for day-to-day trading. One of the biggest advantages to Meta Trader is the fact that there are so many indicators and expert advisors (trading robots) available for it on the internet. Some are free, some are commercial, but there are literally thousands of them.
For indicators, a trader can program in the native language of Meta Trader to create their own if they desire. It is an open source platform, (which is why so many indicators are out there for it) and is easily programmed in its own language, MQL4. There are numerous guides and tutorials on the internet available for download to learn how to program for this great platform.
Below, you can see a chart on Meta Trader using one of the preprogrammed templates call “momentum”, which features Stochastics, RSI, and the Momentum indicator, as well as a moving average on price, and price itself.

As you can see, you have the ability to use several indicators at once. Because of this, Meta Trader is a good fit for most traders. Add to the fact that it is almost always free, the price is right!
The charts are highly customizable, and can be done in a variety of color combinations. Each one is customizable, giving traders an almost unlimited combination to choose from. While most people wouldn’t necessarily want these colors, you can make the charts look however you want:

Notice that not only has the chart been changed from “candlesticks” to “bars”, but the background has been changed to black from white, while the bars are no longer black and white, but green. This is a nice contrasting visual chart.
Meta Trader also allows for market pricing, news, email, and several other features like a journal. Notice on the chart below, it now shows the market prices on several pairs, and the streaming news that this broker offers:

As you can see, Meta Trader is highly versatile, and can be customized to do several things, as well as have its appearance suited to your preferences. Meta Trader is by far the gold standard with most brokers.
